Sunday Racing Results 8/1/2010

On the first Sunday race of August we had seven boats (but, hey, we could still use more)! There were some beautiful pre-storm winds blowing down towards the dam and as a result there was some pretty serious competition among most of the seven sunfish (some boats were a little less serious than others).

The first race began with an eventful start. Sarah and crew Will were over the line at the start and had to circle back around to be clear. However, on the downwind leg, the Sarah and Will team pulled ahead and won the race. We cannot exclude the team that closely followed though: Lou and Emily Iannucci. This team had a great race and even with the slight mishap of being in irons at the finish they still pulled off a very close second! Grant, one of the leaders for the whole race, was beaten out in the last leg by the Andy and Joey Weingram team. Fleet captain, Robert completed an assortment of circles at the end of the race, claiming they were due to his malfunctioning rudder! As a result, he was beaten right at the end by his son Robbie and crew Tyler Ruiz. We also had a brave new sailor out this week! Congratulations to Sara who went out and tried her best; even though her sailing day ended in a tow, we can’t thank her enough for coming out!

This brings me to our second race with great wind, it was a short course, with a huge amount of action packed in.  The race began with Sarah and Will in irons at the start and Robert in the lead. The Sarah and Will team pulled ahead and rounded the first mark in first after taking a wider approach than the Weingram team who rounded in a close second. Robbie and Robert rounded next, fighting for third. Grant, who picked up a crew, Connor, after the first race, rounded the mark in fifth. Sara and the Iannucci team, however, had left after the first race. The race ended with another win for Sarah and a very close second by the Weingram team

On that note, I would like to call out anybody who would like to participate in the Sunday all boat races. Hey! That means you! It’s about time to pull your old sunfish out from the tarp its been hiding under, or untie your comet from the old dock and sail on over! These Sunday all boat races are great for any sailor. Whether you just want to have fun or you want some competition, anyone can compete. Old or young, two sailors or one, come on over and sail with us on Sundays!

Sunday Racing Results 8/15/2010

The true fast and furious were out this Sunday racing, August 15, Andy and Joey, and Robbie and Grant exchanged 11 lead changes under close conditions. They read the wind like future Olympic champions with a masterful display of talent held on our windy, breezy and shifty lake. Andy and Joey were victorious, followed by Robbie and Grant, Lisa and Rob, Tom and the rest of the pack.

Our second race was a short course, with a huge amount of wind. The teams changed a bit, Will and Robbie, Grant and Rob, Mike sailing the Force Five, and Tom on the Sunfish. The race was tight to the first mark, Andy and Joey pulled ahead and rounded the second mark followed by Will and Robbie, and Grant and Rob fighting for third with Mike. And Tom adds, ‘this was a great sailing match with more opportunity to pass downwind. You had five boats sailing on a tight course at the same time”.

We are expecting standing room only this Sunday on the dock, so come early and bring a chair. Thanks to everyone for two exiting and eventful races! See you all again next Sunday at 11:00am.

What a glorious day for sailing. We had twelve boats on the lake. When is the last time we’ve seen an even dozen on our lake? It is here that we discover the true challenge of sailing. Chip came in first sailing the Hobie Cat, Mike followed in the Force Five. Robbie did a fine job finishing third in the sunfish followed by Horn Wayne and myself sailing in the Comet #3 Nines.

We had a lot of encouragement from all the spectators with standing room only. Special mention to Grant and Chris, Nick who sailed our lake for the first time, Mike and Sarah great job, Tyler excellent race, Therapy was in the mix with the Perrottis at the helm. Miss Emily and Tommy sailed fine.

As Grant was docking with Chris the rudder fell off the boat into the lake and started to float away. Luckily Nick’s 90lb Rottweiler, Josie, was standing guard. Josie jumped into the water and swam directly to the rudder, put it between her jaws and brought it safely back to shore.

See you Sundays at 11:00am. Any and all sailboats are invited to attend.

Alex and James proved unbeatable at our 11:00 am race. Maintaining that lead will be a little more difficult with Therapy expecting to make its appearance and the boat named Three Nines. I personally witnessed extensive tuning alterations made to Three Nines by a father and son team this weekend.

Robert and Grant finished second, a significant blow in the midst of a tight Highland Lakes race. We all welcome Tom back; he made his first appearance this summer and is a true contender for trophy position. J.T. held the course pretty tight.

Many have expressed interest in sailing, any and all sailboats are invited to attend, races start at 11:00 am. See you next Sunday.
