Highland Lakes Club and Community Association is an organization
of many volunteers. Volunteering is a long standing tradition in Highland Lakes.
It is part of what makes this community special.
The following committees are seeking volunteers. What is your interest? Listed
below is a brief description of each committee and an email address of committee
heads. Click on the committee of your interest to contact committee heads with
questions or for information regarding the next meeting!
Official List 2008:
The various committees in the Community are responsible for making recommendations
to the Voting Board on a variety of subjects. The members of each committee
study issues that affect the community and attempt to come up with solutions.
All members in good standing are encouraged to join and volunteer on any of
the standing committees with the exception of the Administration Committee.
Administration Committee chaired by Jeanne Jameson consists of three Officers and three Trustees
reviews the various budgets proposed by the General Manager. The General Manager
devises the annual budgets based upon operating costs and their escalation,
the "wish lists" of the various committees, the inclusion of new programs
and the resulting assessments upon the members. The committee spends an enormous
amount of time on the various budgets because of the impact not only on the
members but on the future of the community. The Committee also reviews staffing
structures, setting the pay rates and increasing or decreasing staff as per
recommendations of the General Manager.
Athletics Committee, is under the
Direction of the Director, Alice Carmody who organizes and directs the activities and volunteers
for children and adult sports. These include the Swim Team, Men's & Women's
Softball, Tennis, Basketball, Volleyball, Roller Hockey, Sailing, Soccer, Hiking,
Bowling, Golf, Bocce and Little League ball. You name it, we can have it!
Badge Checking, Chaired by Ursula Fahmy is responsible for staffing our beaches each summer with volunteers
that ensure only members are using the beaches, tennis courts, basketball courts,
ball fields and picnic areas. The members pay for the maintenance of the facilities
as well as the water quality of our lakes. It would be unfair to the members
to allow non-paying folks to use these facilities. With seven beaches to staff,
the job can be monumental, but at the beginning of every summer season, this
committee recruits and mobilizes a dedicated group of volunteer members who
want to preserve the investment they and their neighbors have made in their
community... “just a few hours per week by many gets the job done!” Badge Information
Boat Dock Committee chaired
by Mark Buruchian is responsible to collect applications for everyone interested

for additional facilities.

Roads Committee chaired by
Tom Kemiksizgil is responsible for evaluating which roads need to be worked
on most for the upcoming season. There are over 32 miles of roadway in Highland
Lakes, much of which is in need of upgrading. The Club has dedicated a portion
of their Capital Budget every year for at least the last 5 years for these projects
so that by the end of approximately 20 years all roads in Highland Lakes will
be in compliance with the Club's road standards. With each new year's projects
completion, the Operating Budget item for the cost of maintenance continues
to drop. The committee is responsible for recommending to the Voting Board which
roads should be tackled in the next cycle based upon need and fiscal feasance.
The Road Committee meets the 1st Thursday of each month at 7:30 pm.
