As reported in the 2005 December Newsette, President's Message:........ "The work at the beach 1 Dam has been completed on time and within budget. I want to extend thanks to our contractor, Ritacco, who was very responsive during the heavy rainfall to provide emergency drainage while continuing to get the work completed on time. It is always a pleasure to work with contractors that are willing to assure that the Club’s interests and expectations are addressed." The Dam Committee
has been busy preparing for the work on the Beach 1 dam. This is the fourth
dam that will be rehabilitated in Highland Lakes. They are at the stage
of obtaining all the necessary permits, and preparing a package for bid
specifications. The bids will hopefully be sent to contractors by early
April. The review of the returned bids is scheduled for early May. Hopefully,
the Committee can recommend a contractor, and the Voting Board can approve
the contract for the work at the May meeting. The current target date
for the work to begin is September. This will allow enough time in the
fall to complete the work, and allow the lake to recharge from the necessary
draw-down. The repairs for the Beach 1 dam require only a minimal draw-down,
not a total lake drain. Once the work on the Beach 1 dam is scheduled,
the Committee plans to move on to the Indian Lake dam. This will be the
fifth and last dam in Highland Lakes to be rehabilitated. Many thanks
to the Committee for years of hard work in getting the work planned and
completed.
