Swim Team News:   May, 2008

We’re looking forward to a fantastic 2008 summer season for the Highland Lakes Swim Team!  Coach Doug Miller will be back to lead the swimmers to victory.   Practice will begin around June 23rd.  Watch the next Newsette and the HL website for more details and the practice schedule.

We’ve moved from the Red Division of the Lakeland Swim Conference to the White Division, which means we’ll have some new competitors this year.  President Bob Acker will be helped out by Mike Cordes, who has agreed to help out for another year to ensure a smooth transition and will act as the Lakeland Delegate and Meet Director.  Thanks Mike!

New suits have been ordered for this year.  Vice President Roe Hall will be coordinating the orders for Speedo Radiance suits. In addition to girls’ suits, boys will be able to order either jammers or briefs.  Look for news about a Mascot/Logo contest this summer. The winning design will be incorporated into swim team apparel for 2009.   Once again, the Highland Lakes “B” Invitational will be a highlight of the season.  This year it is scheduled for July 26th.  We’ll need a lot of help to keep it running as smoothly as it always has, so mark your calendars and get ready to pitch in!  The planning meeting for parents will be held on Thursday, July 17th.

Ray Loughren will be the head timer this year, and Gail Russell and Angela Abrams will continue to keep the events running smoothly as the team statisticians. Treasurer Jim Kenny has great ideas for how to raise money to make the HL Swim Team experience even better.  Everything needs volunteers, so make sure you let us know what you’d like to do to help out.  Your first chance to become involved will be at the parents meeting on Friday, June 27th.  Every swimmer should have at least one parent or guardian attend this important meeting.

Communication from the Swim Team Board will happen via e-mail this summer and we’ll be asking for your e-mail addresses when you register your swimmers.  In the meantime, if you’d like to sign up for the Swim Team e-mail list, please send an e-mail to hlswimming@gmail.com with the word “Subscribe” in the subject line.
