HIKING
Hikes will typically be scheduled every third Sunday. Hikers will meet at the clubhouse parking lot at 10:30 AM. We will either walk from the clubhouse or drive a short distance to the starting point of the hike. It is important that each hiker brings water and lunch and wears appropriate hiking shoes. Most hikes will last an average of 4 - 5 hours, which includes waiting, lunch break and/or driving time. Anyone capable of hiking at least 5 miles at a steady, moderate pace is welcome. Hikers may bring their well behaved dogs, which must be on a leash whenever we walk on a roadway. In the case of inclement weather, including snow or ice on the ground, we will be unable to hike.
However, with sufficient snow on the ground & clear weather, some of us will go on the trails with cross-country skis and/or snowshoes. Anyone interested in cross-country skiing or snowshoeing should call us to confirm that activity will take place on a particular date.
We will also organize occasional canoe/kayak outings on a local lake or river. Information on this activity may be published in the Newsette just prior to the selected date or anyone interested in river outings may leave a phone number for us to call if we cannot meet the deadline for publication prior to this activity.
May 18 - Sitting Bear & Red Dot Trails - Moderate 5 mile hike in Wawayanda State Park. We eat lunch at Lake Lookout.
June 8 - Old Route 23/Canistear Reservoir Road - Easy 6 mile hike, mostly along old woods road to & from the reservoir.
