Joan Bono Memorial Benefit Softball Game

Lorayne Castigline & Joane McNutly #1778

It was a great afternoon for all of us "seasoned" women! We had about thirty women show up and play softball like the good old days. It was so good to see Mrs. Fiala on the bench as coach and Joe Sweeney behind the plate. After seven innings, we couldn't tell what hurt more, our faces from laughing or our legs from trying to run the bases.  Sue Buruchian made beautiful shirts and we all appreciated her pointing to the place where she was going to hit the ball. (She did) One "Estrogette" even slide into home! Thanks to all who made special efforts to attend and raise money for "Gilda's Club of NNJ". At least $300 was donated before the game began. The Lake Wanda Store donated gift certificates to raffle off and there was a 50/50. Who cares if Fran “Corbutt” "Rumsey used a mitt" not intended for athletes’ use " or if the favorite saying was "please don't hit the ball to me!" Next time will be bigger and better! Thank you Bono family for providing refreshments and pizza after the game. Yes, your second generation Highland Lakers, your mother's CAN play softball.
