Red Hat Society: "Highland  Hatters"

Red Hat Society Highland Hatters

     St. Patrick’s Day Event

Pat Wootton – 3749, HL Volunteer

Oh, ‘twas a marvelous day in Vernon! The Highland Hatters once again brought out their red and purple finery, added a wee bit of green (in some cases, a whole lot of green, right down to the hair!), and set out for the Vernon Inn. Once again, the Inn welcomed us and fed us hearty Irish fare and green beer. Not every group can boast of their very own “leprechaun”, but we indeed had the best one in all the land. Theresa Deady once again showed her true Irish heritage by donning her handmade costume, complete with a pot of gold, and surprising “the lot” of us. Oh, ‘twas a sight to behold to me eyes! The “tri-colored” attendees were: Jean Anderson, Irene Boeren, Theresa Deady, Queen Jane Hoffman, Joyce Logan, Dot McAlary, Marie McCoy, Mary Romme, Kathy Scialla, Judi Sunda, Cathy Tansey, Peggy Warner, and Pat Wootton. We usually meet every third Saturday of the month, so why not come out and have some fun and laughs. Please contact Queen Jane at  9702 or myself for information.

February Event

Irene Boeran -7371

The Highland Hatters enjoyed a winter picnic on February 16th at Joy Logan’s home on Upper Highland Lakes. We watched the ice fisherman on the lake as chilly winds blew across the frozen snow. Everyone brought a favorite picnic dish to share as we cooked hot dogs and hamburgers on the deck grill. Hot chocolate, Irish coffee and favorite desserts were shared by all….

We had great conversations ranging in all types of topics which created a laughter that could be heard down the road and across the lake. (I hope we didn’t scare the fish)!!

What better way is there than to enjoy friendships on a February afternoon. Our thanks to Joy Logan for opening her home to us. Attendees: Ruth Prommel, Mary Romme, Kathy Scialla, Jane Hoffmann, Marion Benedicto, Helen Fugett, Jean Anderson, Peggy Warner, Irene Boeren and Joy Logan.

We usually meet every third Saturday of the month.

Next month we will gather for our second annual St. Patricks Day lunch on March 15th.  Please contact Queen Jane -9702 for further information.

December Event

Pat Wootton – 3749

The HLCC was the place to be on Saturday, December 15, 2007.  Seventeen Highland Hatters turned out to enjoy the holiday festivities.  Even though Santa did not make an appearance, some little elves livened up the party.  The Grifone grandchildren joined us for good eats and great fun.  The food was, as always, spectacular and the holiday drinks were a hit as well.  The spirit of the season was evident and the grab bag event was a challenge, as always!  We enjoyed the usual frivolity and the company of good friends.  Thank you Marion, Kathy S., Mary R., for organizing this one.  Attending were:  Jean Anderson, Marion Benedicto, Doris Dolan, Mary Duthaler, Helen Fugett, Kathy Grifone, Jane Hoffman, Joy Logan, Mary Lutz, Virginia McNulty, Ruth Prommel, Mary Romme, Kathy Scialla, Cathy Tansey, Peg Warner, Mary Jane Wisniewski, Pat Wootton, and Grifone grandchildren.  We usually meet every third Saturday of the month, so why not come out and have some fun and laughs.  Please contact Queen Jane at 9702 or myself for information.

January Event

What better way to liven up the January blues than to experience a little bit of Italy right here in Highland Lakes!  Thirteen Hatters gathered on January 19th to sample and enjoy an Italian feast.  Everyone brought their specialty and we savored a great three-course (or more!) luncheon.  Afterward, we all gathered together (very closely, I might add) and enjoyed several rounds of a fun-filled card game.  Despite the fact that some members have “fled” to warmer climates, we enjoyed the companionship of one another.  We are all looking forward to February’s annual “winter picnic” event.  Thanks to Marion and Peggy for helping with this event and thanks to all for pitching in.  Attendees:  Jean Anderson, Marion Benedicto, Irene Boeren, Theresa Deady, Helen Fugett, Kathy Grifone, Joy Logan, Ruth Prommel, Mary Romme, Kathy Scialla, Cathy Tansey, Peg Warner, and Pat Wootton. We usually meet every third Saturday of the month, so why not come out and have some fun and laughs.  Please contact Queen Jane at -9702 or myself for information

November Event

Pat Wootton – 3749

On Saturday, November 17th, eighteen becoming, beguiling, and bedazzled Red Hatters headed off to The Tea Hive on Route 94 in Newton.  We enjoyed a scrumptious “tea sampler” lunch, which included breads, mini sandwiches, sweet confections, and plenty of tea of course! The cheerful rooms were beautifully decorated for the upcoming holidays.  Everyone raided their closets for their finest red and purple, and we certainly livened up the establishment with lots of chatter. We even had a few shoppers amongst us (so what else is new?!) who visited the local gift emporium. Thanks to Queen Jane for arranging our soiree. Attending were: Jean Anderson, Marion Benedicto, Doris Dolan, Mary Duthaler, Helen Fugett, Jane Hoffman, Irene Linehan, Joyce Logan, Mary Lutz, Dot McAlary, Marie McCoy, Virginia McNulty, Ruth Prommel, Mary Romme, Cathy Tansey, Peg Warner, Pat Wootton, and special guest, Winnie (Marion’s mom). We usually meet every third Saturday of the month, so why not come out and have some fun and laughs.  Please contact Queen Jane at 9702 or myself for information.

Red Hat Society  Highland Hatters October Event

Irene Boeren – 7371

We held our second annual progressive luncheon with a Mexican theme on a beautiful October Saturday afternoon. It began at Mary Romme’s with appetizers and great views of Indian Lake, our second house with the main course of Paella and salads was at Marion Benedicto’s with awesome scenery of the Big Lake, then off across the street to Peggy Warner’s home for deserts and beverages.

Now for the big question – how many Red Hatters does it take to break a piñata?  Well! We couldn’t and then Mary decided to break it from the bottom and brightly colored beads of red and purple floated down to the ground. We had a wonderful afternoon with many laughs.

Attendees were: Marion Benedicto, Peggy Warner, Mary Romme, Jean Anderson, Doris Dolan, Virginia McNulty, Ruth Prommel, Mary Lutz, Irene Linehan, Jane Hoffman, Mary Duthaler, Theresa Deady, Madeline Brancato, Kathy Scialla, (Newcomer) Cathy Tansey and Irene Boeren. We usually meet every third Saturday of the month, so come on out and join us.
