Teen Council Update News

Camille Spinella #7147

After awaking from a long needed rest, our Council kids were already in motion!  Our St. Pasquale's Dinner was a success, thanks to all those bum-bahs in the kitchen, were they great or what! Oops! Our Irish fellas, they were wonderful!  Sincere thanks to our wonderful cooks, they were the tops! Food Channel, eat your heart out, these guys are ours!  Thank you Neil, John, Tom, Mary, Mia, and Frank !(The Italian fella....what is that about?)

D.J. Mark and Ryan made our family dinner supper complete with sing-alongs of the Emerald Isle! Teen Council were all over the place decorating, hosting, serving, and whatever. They work like a well-oiled machine! Thanks guys, you are the best!

We are getting our thoughts ready for the season, and we are ready to move to the next activity.  Be on the watch for Teen Council members who will be visible at more Club House Activities. We plan on being at New Member Parties, Ecology Meetings and some of us will have worked on Clean-up Day. Of cause any one that would like to help...all ages, come on down! Whenever we are called to assist our other committees with community service, we are "there"!

One of our fun things in the planning is a Classic Car Show, even with "Doo Opp music". We hope to show some Oldie cars. Know of anyone that has a classic car? Please let us know!  We hope to have a day of fun with this activity!  How about those other classic cars, a nice lookin' "Stangs", or a "Vettes", don't forget those "GTOs" (oh yeah, Babe that's what I'm talkin' about!) "Birds", are pretty to look at!  "T-Birds", and "Firebirds", GTA’s included!  Wow! Put those shades on!

Sundae/Sunday...a Sundae Social! A fund raiser, make your sundaes for Teen Council!  More about this later, watch for this yummy treat for the family! We always share our fun, V-Ball Challenges complete with DJ! A new idea will be a fund raiser, how about a 'D D R' (Dance, Dance Revelation) Tournament 13 years old and up, entry upon skill level!  Don't forget our Pool Tournaments! That's a no brainer! What's summer with out our "Outta-School at last dance"! A perfect Celebration for Outta School! More ideas and thoughts just keep comin' in, but you'll have to wait until next time, we're runnin' out of room!

Why do I keep hearing, "I'm bored! There is nothing to do around here!" Well kid here's the scoop, first you have to get down to the Club House on Sunday Evenings, and meet with Teen Council. We NEVER use the word "bored", if you do, we can ALWAYS find something to do! Council members have FUN! We do community service that is needed for schools, colleges, and religious education, Highland Lakes Teen Council hours are recorded, and accepted for Honor Society, community service hours, and college entrances.

So like whatcha waitin for? Teen Council meets Sunday evenings @ 7:30 P.M. in the Club House. Anyone that is "almost" 13 come on down, and leave name and phone number at the Club House Office so that we can contact you. We will have sign ups at the Activity Center, please be sure to PRINT your name & phone number!

Yoa, until next time, see ya later!

Just another Howler

Camille Spinella 973-764-7147

Where did our year go?  We've been pretty busy getting our Haunted Club House In Your Wildest Dreams. "Don't Walk In The Woods" "up" and ready for and set for our "best performances" of the year! It is amazing to watch how a group of teens can get their stages, props, acting and makeup all in one day complete!  Many hours were put into this production that only lasts for a short time! Many thanks to Angela for brands, and Julie for being my "other" set of eyes, "Jimmy", Allison, and Alex, thank you for walking through to insure all was ok.  If you missed our Haunted Club House, you missed a great "walk in the woods"! It would have given you the "willies"! Perhaps you may not want to walk in the woods after being through this one!

Our next activity will be The Tree Lighting; we are getting our voices ready to sing for Santa!  We will be working with Santa this year in making our "Santa's Workshop" come alive with activities for children.  Don't forget about letters to Santa this year; get those ideas and thoughts down!  Our mailbox will be ready for special delivery to the North Pole, no postage will be necessary! Be sure to come on down, bring cookies to share and have some "magic hot chocolate" with your favorite helper! Teen Council will be taking pictures with Santa!

Teen Council's Holiday Party will be the Sunday after the Tree Lighting. This is our last event for the year. Whew!  This is the first year we will open our party to other Teens, that would like to join us! This is a Semi-formal Dance/Party, and a cover charge of $5 per person.  Our very own DJ Mark will be getting us ready for the Holiday! If you would like to join us, Sunday, December 2nd 7PM - 9PM in the Lake Room!

Teen Council's events will conclude for the year, and I go into hibernation for a long rest!  We will re-group in February to get ready for our St. Patrick's Family Dinner in March! In the meantime we will rest up and get ready for another year filled with fun events, and fund raisers! I'm tired already! Wow! Later!  See ya!

HELP!  Are you calling me? Come on over so I don't have to shout this!  I need help!  We are currently looking for ADULT volunteers to assist me with our Teens.  We have a great group of young people, right here in Highland Lakes.  Some might be your sons or daughters!  We had to cancel our Volley Ball Challenge that was set for Sunday, August 29th, because I couldn't be there!  Please consider this I, too, work and have obligations at home that need my immediate care, if I had another Team-mate some of our activities could still be "in place", when I am not available.  Would YOU consider?  No experience is necessary, honest! What a great feeling to see teenagers smile when they see you!  I witness it each time we meet! Trust me....it is "Price-less"! Happy Teenagers!  What a deal!  If you would like to "step up the plate" please give me a call or leave your name at the Club House Office.  I can certainly use YOUR help!  Hey!  I gotta run outta here...see ya next time....later!

We are still working on the dates for pool tournament weekend that will be posted, as soon as our co-coordinators get the dates cleared. Nick, Kevin, and Carl will be chairing this venture; sign ups will be posted at the Club House Activity Center within a week.

Unfortunately, one of our fundraisers will be scratched this year.  Our annual craft show, held in November, will be canceled.  We are planning on performing "Frankie and Gina's Wedding" instead. We hope that we have adults out there that will assist us with this event. Monies made from this event will go toward our holiday party. Anyone that would like to have fun be sure to sign up for this wedding of a life time! Sign up sheets are in the Club House Activity Center! Adults ONLY!

Get Ready! set!  Go!  We are ready to start to rock n' roll!  We had a slow start due to weather conditions, but we will be in full swing when this article hits the news!

Here's ideas that are passing through our hands!  We will be setting our dates for the usual fun things, V-Ball Challenge complete with our D.J., Beach Party, The Ultimate Dance Challenge, Pizza/Hoagie Fest, and a possible play!

About 10 years ago we hosted a wedding...FRANKIE AND GINA'S WEDDING! Well, there is a possibility FRANKIE AND GINA will be getting back together to do the parts that were NOT witnessed!  Watch for upcoming ideas regarding this wedding....we are certain you will NEVER forget this wedding!  We will need MANY adult characters to make this happen, if you might be interested, leave your name at the office!

Teen Council is currently accepting new members, if you are 13 and up, come on down to the Club House on Sunday's at 7:30 P.M. and join!  We'll meet you down there...bring a friend!  Until next time....see ya!

We are off and running!  Welcome back Teen Council Members!  We sure missed you all!  Now back to our program!

Sunday, March 11th, Teen Council hosted St. Patrick's Family Dinner, their first Community Affair for the Season, and what a job they had done!  Applause to our Irish cooks!  John McDonald, Neal Skyta, Tom Pinard, and Kevin Mc Kenna, brought out delights of: Corned Beef, Cabbage, Red-skinned Potatoes, Carrots, John's Sheppard's Pie, and a new addition! Open-Reuben Sandwiches! They cooked their little Irish Hearts out, and we all enjoyed every bit of it!  Our Teen Council Members decorated our clubhouse, and anyone or anything that had gotten in their path...including me!

Our D.J. Mark rolled those Irish tunes! Our Teens were all over the place with each having a job to do!  Special Thanks to Angela Abrams for keeping "watch" while I was at a Bowling Tournament in Upstate New York!  When I returned, my "kids" told me, "done!", or "doing that now"...ok than! They worked together like a well greased machine! Thank you to my Team Leaders: Ryan, Kevin, Heather, Jackie, and Matt for making sure all our objectives were complete!  Great going! Sure proud of you all! Thank you for making MY job easy! :)

Next! At our meeting we will be deciding on our plans for the Season!  If anyone would like to join our active group come on down to the Clubhouse on Sundays @7:30 P.M. or give me a land line and I'll be happy to talk with you!

Teen Council? What is it? We are a group of kids....(me too) well anyway, ages 13 and up that includes fun and doing Community Minded Activities. "Boring"...Nope! Not this group!  We are always active!  We are known for assisting with the Peter Rabbit Brunch, Haunted Club House, Holiday Craft Show, Holiday Tree Lighting, Santa's Helpers, Letters to Santa, and of cause our St. Patrick's Family Dinner!

Did you know, Teen Council is recognized for Community Service Hours for High School, Religious Education, Scouts, and Colleges?  If you are in search of Community Service Hours, this is the place to be....while having fun with others!

Contact me, and I'll assist with your criteria!  Can't be any easier than that!  Here's a thought...bring a friend!

Until than...see ya.
